Lawrence was interviewed
by a different fraction of the school board on Thursday, Oct. 20.
So that makes three
candidates for Kefer’s seat right?
Wrong.
There are only two
candidates.
New math?
Nope, education law.
Prior to Lawrence’s
interview, Pottstown School Board Solicitor Stephen Kalis announced that Bush
has been disqualified because she has not lived in the borough long enough to
serve on the school board, according to state education law.
So now we’re back to two
— again.
Presuming the board did
not vote on a candidate during its “retreat” meeting Thursday — a meeting from
which the public was ejected — a vote is expected at the regular meeting Monday
night.
During her interview,
Lawrence indicated she has lived in Pottstown her entire life.
A 1979 graduate of
Pottstown High School and that year’s valedictorian, Lawrence has degrees in
education and psychology; she is pursuing a masters degree in educational
psychology with a focus on neuropsychology; she teaches psychology at Ursinus
College and Montgomery County Community College and is also involved with early
education as assistant child care director at the YMCA.
“My kids went to the
same elementary school I did,” said Lawrence, who graduated from Ursinus
College. “I just really love Pottstown. I stayed here, I live right around the
corner,” Lawrence said.
