Dear Editor:

            The Pottstown School District Uniform Committee, which is comprised of students, parents, teachers, administrators, and school board members, has tried to be responsive to a number of concerns that have been expressed regarding various aspects of the school uniform policy and, for that reason, participation during this school year is on a voluntary basis.  The committee reviewed several options for providing school uniforms. In the opinion of the committee, Schuylkill Valley Sports was able to provide high quality garments that met the requirements set by the committee.  They have been a respected retailer in this area for 24 years and have lived up to every request made by the committee.  President Jerry Williams has gone to great lengths to accommodate the committee’s requests and customers’ concerns.  The debate about school uniforms should not include an attack on Schuylkill Valley Sports.  We would like to thank them for all their efforts and cooperation.  We apologize to them for any inconvenience or criticisms they have unjustly received. 

            The Pottstown School District has the opportunity to be at the forefront of area public schools and set an example by creating a method by which young people will come to school dressed appropriately and prepared to learn.  We feel that this can be accomplished comfortably, fashionably, and at an affordable price.  We will continue to review all aspects of the school uniform issue and encourage healthy, constructive debate that we are confident will ultimately lead to the Pottstown School District providing an educational atmosphere that will encourage student achievement and pride.
