The Pottstown School District writing program was on display at a recent school board meeting. School board members were treated to readings from students in kindergarten through high school. The board monthly recognizes outstanding writers from each of the district’s schools. Featured this month were the following high school writing award winners:
Senior Winner – Erinn Kenline
Junior Winner – Angelica Stone
Sophomore Winner – Kenneth Zallie
Freshman Winner – Tyisha Reddick
The program was an opportunity to see the progression of writing skills from kindergarten through high school. One representative from each grade level was selected for their writing skills. They included:
Grace Lewiski – Kindergarten
Jesseny Redrovan – First Grade
Darius Smallwood – Second Grade
Brice Cole – Third Grade
Harrison Wolf – Fourth Grade
Abigail Richter – Fifth Grade
Xavier Campbell – Sixth Grade
Maxine Bacon - Seventh Grade
Abigayle Reisner - Eighth Grade
The high school award winners received the following recommendations from the high school staff:
Senior Winner - Erinn Kenline
For 4 years, Erinn has proven herself the top English student at Pottstown High School. In Advanced Placement Literature, her work shows a maturity, voice and analysis not usually seen with high school seniors. Indeed, her writing displays a maturity beyond her years. Congratulations Erinn!
Junior Winner – Angelica Stone
Angelica Stone moved to Pottstown at the start of her third grade year. The daughter of Kimberly Welch, Angelica attended Rupert Elementary where she was involved with Reading Olympics and Choir. As a middle school student, Angelica found interest in Choir, Jr. National Honor Society, and art club. During her tenure at Pottstown High School, Angelica has participated in the Speech and Debate team, earning awards in her novice year during the current school year. She has also earned a place as a starting right fielder for the girl’s softball team. Angelica has also found creative outlets while performing as a member of the PHS Show Choir, Key club where she serves as secretary, Peer Mediation and Student Ambassadors. She also currently serves as secretary to the class of 2012.
Sophomore Winner – Kenneth Zallie
Creativity and genius coupled with desire and ambition are attributes which epitomize Kenneth Zallie. Kenny is not only an outstanding student; he is also an exceptional individual. In addition to the qualities of diligence, dedication, and self-discipline that are prerequisites to success, Kenny has an innate ability, a talent for expressing his ideas and views by the written word. He is active in extracurricular activities and has been recognized for his talents and contributions to the school. Congratulations Kenny!
Freshman Winner - Tyisha Reddick
The ninth grade writing award is presented to Tyisha Reddick. Whether writing a personal narrative, persuasive essay or synthesizing research, Tyisha has performed at the advanced level. Her work is creative, insightful and noted for vivid language, strong vocabulary, and near flawless grammar. Congratulations Tyisha!
