Recently, the recipients of the prestigious William A. Engle Award were named by the Pottstown School District.  The Engle Award is presented in memory of William Engle, a lifetime Pottstown resident, who worked as an engineer for the Pennsylvania Railroad.  Mr. Engle was a true philanthropist who was responsible for many charitable works, including the development of a playground on South Washington Street.  Mr. Engle is remembered for providing educational opportunities for many of our community’s young people.

The Engle Award was initially established to recognize the first, second, and third highest academic achieving students in each of the elementary buildings in the Pottstown School District.  First place recipients receive a $200 savings bond; second and third place recipients each receive a $100 savings bond.  This year’s honorees included:
