PARENTS AND STUDENTS FIND LEARNING CAN BE FUN

Over 100 students and parents from Rupert Elementary School found that learning can be fun.   Despite rainy and dreary weather, a large turnout attended the annual “Rupert Families Learning Together” event.   The fun family night has been held the past several years every September.   The focus of family learning together night is for students and parents to work together and learn about fun, educational activities that can be done at home.

The entire evening students, parents, and teachers found fun-filled activities which included four stations:

Kings and Queens of Math - In this activity students used cards to play games and practice math skills.

Stick With Reading - Students performed activities using sticks to help build fluency with high frequency words.

Munching Math - This activity which found the most participants had students and parents using food to practice math facts.

Educational Games - Students and parents found that there are many educational board games that can be played at home.

Mr. Moyer expressed his gratitude to Mrs. Natalie Pileggi for organizing the event and to all the staff members who volunteered their time to participate.   Teachers taking part included:   Kathleen Hayes, Susan Paravis, Sarah Noska, Shannon Wagner, Allen Ferster, Jamie Fazekas, Sherry Shank, Lisa Meyers, Debbie McNamara, and Emily Britton.

Mrs. Pileggi pointed out, “The best part about this night is that parents and students learn easy and fun ways to practice important educational skills at home.   We always have a great turnout for this event and parents really enjoy spending quality time with their children.”
