Tools for Success

Kindergarten is an exciting time for all. It is a time when independence develops and the excitement about school is evident. One way to maintain that excitement is to be prepared for the challenges of school. Parents can do much to make sure that their child is prepared for the challenges of school each and every day.

First, help your child get organized. Make sure your child has all the supplies-a backpack is needed each day. Also, develop the habit of making sure assignments have been completed, are neatly done and are ready to be turned in the next day. Toys and non-usable items, such as crayons, extra pencils and notebooks, should remain at home.

Second, it is important that your child come to school rested every day. Establish an evening bedtime for your child and STICK to that time. Kindergarteners should be in bed by 8:30pm.

Third, make sure your child begins the day with a healthy breakfast, such as cereal, milk, eggs, juice and/or toast.

Lastly, know your child’s routine. Be aware of the bus schedule, and the opening and closing hours of school. Also, be aware of those days in your child’s schedule when there will be an early dismissal. Prepare your child for a successful day in kindergarten at Franklin Elementary School.
