evelyn estes 2018 This is How You Spell Success

Congratulations and good luck to Pottstown Middle School student Evelyn Estes. She is learning that hard work pays off and spells success. Evelyn is a two-time Middle School Building Spelling Bee champion who represented Pottstown at the Discover Lehigh Valley Spelling Bee Competition held on the Lehigh University campus. In head-to-head competition with 95 other students from Southeast Pennsylvania and New Jersey that included a Preliminary Round 25 word spelling test and a additional 5 vocabulary questions, which required spellers to choose the best definition of a word from four choices, Evelyn, who has been competing in spelling contests since 2nd grade, was among the top 44 semifinalists who will take part in the Regional contest held at Northampton Community College in Bethlehem, PA later this month.

school board-2 Pottstown School Board Speaks Out Against YMCA Closure

The Pottstown School Board Thursday unanimously adopted a resolution which “adamantly opposes” the closure of the Philadelphia Freedom Valley YMCA on North Adams Street.

School Board President Amy Francis, who noted she is “generations deep” in Pottstown, said she is “upset about YMCA’s decision to leave Pottstown. It will affect students so much and its trickle-down effects will be felt for a long time. This is yet another place where advocacy for Pottstown is needed” she said.

Advocacy, it appears, will now come from the school district, among other sources. Click HERE to read the full Mercury story.

A Wiggins-3 A Man Who Wears Many Hats

Pottstown High School Senior Anthony Wiggins is a man who wears many hats. He puts his Child Care classroom experience to good use as an aide in the Pre K Counts PEAK classroom and can be seen as a member of the football, wrestling and baseball teams. Anthony was one of the leads in last year's all school musical and fills in as one of the Trojan Man mascots when he is not in the role of a holiday time elf. Next year he plans to attend Millersville University where he will major in Early Childhood Education. His smile and friendly attitude invite all to say hello. Anthony is representative of the multitasking, high achieving students in our schools. His hard work is paying off and giving us another reason to say, Proud to be from Pottstown.
